Hi, and a big welcome to my newest blog, today, my question to you is “Can Fire Protection Engineers Help You Avoid Costly Mistakes?”
If you are involved with the design and construction of new buildings or renovating existing buildings, you are more than aware that even the best-laid plans can so easily go wrong. And, if you are not constantly on top of the situation, the longer it takes to identify the mistake the more expensive it is to fix.
Firesafe Sprinkler Systems come across this many times. A common example is if a building does not meet the local fire code, a building inspector can bring your project to a halt so easily. When a fire protection engineer is brought in early in the design process, it can keep a project on time and on budget (a project managers dream ending).
Developing solutions that meet the intent of the Fire Safety Code, and negotiate approval with the Fire Safety Inspectors is such an important aspect of the design process. Carefully reviewing the building design and applicable codes and working closely with the Fire Safety Inspector to ensure all approvals are provided is for a much less costly solution than the alternative.
By understanding how important it is to establish a relationship with the Fire Safety Inspectors in the early stages of a project and fully understand their interpretation of the applicable code requirements and expectations for the project allows for changes to the design of the fire safety systems, if applicable.
Following this process provides an opportunity to fully explain the proposed fire protection systems and the interpretation of the many code requirements, as well as set the stage for continued dialogue and fire protection solution negotiations saving everyone time and money.
